Manchester United handed boost following latest Alex Telles coronavirus test

Manchester United have been handed a boost following Alex Telles' latest coronavirus test, with the full-back passing a negative result.

The deadline day signing tested positive for the virus last month ahead of United 's Champions League clash against RB Leipzig, then missing the defeats to Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir as well as the victory against Everton.

He joined up with the Brazil squad for the November international break after testing negative before linking up with his nation, then coming off the bench in Friday's 1-0 victory against Venezuela.

However, the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) then reported that Telles had returned a positive test and would return to United if another positive test result came on Sunday.

Thankfully, Telles' latest test was a negative result and he will travel with his team to Montevideo for the World Cup qualifier against Uruguay on Tuesday.

“After a negative result in his last test, Alex Telles will travel with the squad to Uruguay,” the CBF said in a statement.

Telles would not have been able to enter Uruguay without returning a negative result and is now free to feature for his nation again.

The news will come as a boost for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with Telles likely to start against West Brom in the Premier League this weekend with Luke Shaw sidelined through injury, although the club said earlier today that he would be tested again on returning to Carrington to confirm his availability.

Signed from Porto, Telles is yet to make his Premier League debut for the club, having only been selected in the squad once - for the victory against Newcastle United.

His opportunity should come against the Baggies this weekend though, with his first taste of English football and his second appearance overall for the club.
