Manchester United hand Liverpool huge Premier League title boost

Manchester United have beaten neighbours City today in a 2-0 win at Old Trafford.

And it hands Liverpool a big boost in their pursuit of the Premier League title.

City were favourites to claim victory against their bitter rivals this afternoon.

But their failure to do so now means that Liverpool could wrap up the league even sooner than expected.

As it stands, the Reds just need another six points to be crowned champions, regardless of results elsewhere.

And they have the opportunity to claim them before the international break at the end of the month - by beating Everton on March 16th and Crystal Palace on March 21st.

Provided City also keep winning in the meantime, those two wins for Jurgen Klopp's side would see the title claimed at Anfield in two weeks' time.

But the picture could change even further as City play Arsenal at home on Wednesday night and then host Burnley on Saturday.

If City lose one of those games and win the other - or draw twice - then Liverpool can land the title with a victory at Goodison Park on the 16th.

Should City only claim one point from their additional games this week, then a draw away to Everton would seal it for Liverpool.

Four points for City would mean that the Reds would require four points from Everton and Palace to get over the line.

And in the highly unlikely event that City lose to both Arsenal and Burnley, the Reds would win the title without kicking a ball again - heading to Goodison as champions.
