Manchester United great Wayne Rooney scores 80-yard MLS screamer

Wayne Rooney added another long-distance goal to his collection as he scored from inside his own half in DC United's win over Orlando City in the MLS.

The ball fell to the former United captain around 80 yards from the opposition's goal after a couple of ricochets and he didn't take a touch before firing home in the 10th minute.

Rooney, 33, was mobbed by his teammates after the strike, which ultimately proved to be the winner in a game that was decided by a single goal.

The goal took Rooney onto nine for the season, with only Carlos Vela, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Josef Martinez having scored more times in America's top flight than the ex-England striker.

Rooney twice scored from around the half-way line during his time in the Premier League.

In 2014 he netted United's opening goal in an away game against West Ham before scoring from even further out for Everton at Goodison Park against the same opponents in 2017.
