Manchester United great Wayne Rooney gets management advice from Pep Guardiola insider

Wayne Rooney has been backed to forge a successful career in management by former Manchester City assistant Domenec Torrent.

Rooney, Manchester United's all-time record goal scorer, is currently playing for DC United in the MLS, and recently came up against Torrent's New York City FC.

Torrent took the manager's job at NYCFC after assisting Pep Guardiola at City, and the Spaniard revealed that he has spoken to Rooney about the striker's future in management.

Torrent explained: “I’m sure Wayne will become a good coach because the last conversations I’ve had with him were about that.

“He’s interested in becoming a coach and he can be a top coach in the Premier League. If he can, it’s good news because he’s a legend in the Premier League and football around the world.

“It’s important these players stay in the game.

“I love this guy, I’m a supporter of Manchester City and he’s United but for me he’s a good guy.”

Rooney recently revealed his ambitions to go into coaching, saying he has already received offers to become a manager.

He said: “There’s an opportunity for me to go straight into management.

“When I do hang up my boots, that decision will be made on what the ambition of the club is and what my own ambitions are.

“I’m taking steps to get my coaching badges but I just want to enjoy playing.”
