Manchester United great Roy Keane tells Solskjaer how many defensive signings he needs

Roy Keane has told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he needs to overhaul his defence in the summer after Manchester United slumped to their seventh defeat in nine matches on Wednesday night.

United were soundly beaten by City in the Manchester derby and they must now rely on other results to go in their favour over the final three games of the season to qualify for the Champions League.

No other team in the Premier League's top 10 has conceded more goals than United this season and Keane was typically brutal with his analysis of the options currently available to Solskjaer.

“The worry for me is that they certainly need a couple of centre-halves, do United, and a couple of full-backs," Keane said on Sky Sports. "That’s four for starters.

"Then who is making the final decision? There’s chaos in the background. Will Ole have the final say? I don’t know because if you speak to the previous managers, they will tell you it was a big problem for them."

Keane believes United may struggle to attract the calibre of player they are targeting after several years of mediocrity in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

“What brilliant players would want to come to United?" Keane asked. "I always thought (United could always attract players) and up to the last two years if I ever spoke to a player with a chance of going to United, I would tell him to go.

"I don’t care, if you’re a top player now you would not want to come to Man Utd because there are better options out there."
