Manchester United great Patrice Evra surprised by Bruno Fernandes

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has shared how he has been surprised by Bruno Fernandes following his arrival in the January transfer window.

The Portugal international has been a revelation at Old Trafford since arriving from Sporting Lisbon and, following the draw against Tottenham, is still yet to taste defeat at United.

He put in another starring performance against Jose Mourinho's side and, speaking ahead of the match, Evra spoke about comparisons with Paul Scholes.

“I want to talk about Fernandes because I was in shock when Ole compared him to Paul Scholes. Because when you compare a player to Paul Scholes, it’s a crime," he told Sky Sports.

"But actually, I understand what he means, it’s the way he dictates the game. It’s the first time I’ve seen a player in charge of the football at United in a long time.

"He plays really simple. I was really, really surprised when I saw the impact Bruno Fernandes had at United."

After the match, Evra again singled out Fernandes for praise and declared that he was the best player on the pitch for the club once again.

"He is my man of the match for the game again. He scored a penalty and every touch he had, he played really simple and I’m now in love with this player.

“We should also respect the other midfielders, it’s not about Paul and Fernandes. That’s what I love when Fernandes said he has a good connection with all of the players, not only Paul.

"Because you need to give credit to Scott, Fred, Matic when he came on, he made such a good impact. Of course, we are talking about Paul and Bruno because they are the most influential players right now but I also want to give credit to all the midfielders at United.

"Sometimes class is class and Paul and Bruno Fernandes is different level."
