Manchester United great Gary Neville mocks Liverpool following derby defeat to Everton

It wouldn't be a Liverpool defeat if Manchester United hero Gary Neville wasn't on hand to make a joke at the club's expense.

After going unbeaten for 68 games at Anfield, Liverpool lost on their home turf for the fourth consecutive game on Saturday after previous defeats to Burnley, Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City.

The latest loss stung particularly hard, however, as it was to city rivals Everton, who hadn't won at Anfield since 1999.

The Toffees took the lead within the first three minutes as Richarlison confidently fired into the bottom corner after being played through by an expertly placed James Rodriguez pass.

It was then a nervy affair for the next 80 minutes as Jurgen Klopp's side looked to find a way back into the match but their hopes of a comeback were dashed when Gylfi Sigurdsson netted a controversially awarded penalty.

If it wasn't already over, the defeat has all but put an end to Liverpool's hopes of retaining the Premier League title.

After finishing a massive 33 points behind the champions last season, United could move nine points clear of their bitter rivals if they defeat Newcastle United on Sunday, while leaders City could go 19 points above them if they win at Arsenal.

Former United skipper Neville has made a habit of poking fun at Liverpool whenever they have dropped points this season and this latest defeat has been no different.

The Sky Sports pundit quickly moved to post a video on Twitter, in which he was holding a glass of red wine, and said: "It's been very difficult in lockdown, I mean meltdown, I mean lockdown! To see the demise of the great champions."
