Manchester United great Gary Neville issues Declan Rice transfer warning

Former Manchester United star Gary Neville has warned the Red Devils about attempting to sign Declan Rice.

The Red Devils made some big noise during the summer transfer window as they acquired the likes of Harry Maguire, Daniel James and Aaron-Wan Bissaka.

But it's clear United need more reinforcements if they are to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool moving forward for the Premier League title.

West Ham United star Rice has been one of the players linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months but Neville is worried about the transfer fee associated with the 20-year-old.

"I don’t know. I mean, you talk about £80m, £90m to get him out of West Ham," Neville told Sky Sports.

"We’ve seen a bid for Wilfried Zaha from Everton for £70m odd (which was rejected). To get players out of the likes of West Ham and Crystal Palace now, it’s not going to be easy so it’s going to cost a fortune.

"Would I say yes now at £80m or £90m? I’m not feeling that personally at this moment in time."

Neville does insist, however, that a bright future awaits Rice.

"But am I seeing a really good player who could potentially develop into something fantastic for the next 10 years? Yes, I really do think that," Neville added.

"But would I go and spend that much money on a player (with potential)? Do Manchester United need another player (like that)?

"They’ve already got Nemanja Matic, they’ve already got Scott McTominay, who are doing a similar role to what I see Rice doing."
