Manchester United great Gary Neville busts myth about Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United great Gary Neville has dismissed the idea that Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes will have issues playing in the same midfield.

The duo played together in the first of United's two friendlies against West Brom on Friday afternoon as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

The friendly outing marked the debut of a new-look midfield for United as January addition Fernandes finally took to the pitch on the same team as World Cup winner Pogba.

Fernandes has set the standard for midfield performances at United since arriving earlier this year, but is yet to play competitively with club-record signing Pogba who had been sidelined through injury since Boxing Day.

The creative duo are both likely to feature when United face Tottenham in the Premier League next Friday, although some have questioned how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be able to cater for two playmaking options in the same midfield three.

However, United great Neville does not believe there will be any issues as he referenced Manchester City's midfield duo Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva as an example of two attack-minded midfielders fitting into the same side.

"I don’t understand the sentiment of  “how do Pogba and Fernandes“ fit together," Neville tweeted on Saturday morning. "They won't be in a 2 sitting!

"With more fluid systems today than 20 years ago it should be simple. We’ve just watched De Bruyne and David Silva play together for 3 years in a MDF 3."

City have won six of the last seven domestic trophies available to them, with De Bruyne and David Silva playing key roles in much of their success in recent years.
