Manchester United great Edwin van der Sar's condition 'stable but still concerning' after brain haemorrhage

Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar remains in intensive care following a bleed on the brain where his condition is described as 'stable but still concerning'.

The former United goalkeeper was admitted to hospital on Friday after he suffered a cerebral haemorrhage while on holiday in Croatia. He has since been transferred to the coastal city of Split.

Van der Sar's former clubs, including United, Ajax and Fulham among others, have all sent messages of support for the former Netherlands international. United's message read: "Sending all our love and strength to you, Edwin."

Ajax have now released an update on Van der Sar's condition on behalf of his wife Annemarie. The 52-year-old remains in intensive care where he is described as 'stable but still concerning' as the family thanked those who have sent messages of support.

A statement from the Dutch club read: "Edwin van der Sar will remain in intensive care for the time being. His condition is stable but still concerning.

"Ajax shares this information on behalf of Annemarie van der Sar, Edwin's wife. The Van der Sar family, along with Ajax, is grateful and deeply touched by the many messages of support."

Van der Sar joined United in January 2005 and made more than 250 appearances for the club before retiring in 2011. In that time he won four Premier League titles, two League Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup and the Champions League.
