Manchester United great Andy Cole makes Odion Ighalo prediction

Manchester United great Andy Cole believes new signing Odion Ighalo will be desperate to prove he is worthy of a permanent deal at Old Trafford.

The Nigerian moved to Old Trafford on deadline day, completing a six-month loan switch from Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua, to provide cover for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side after Marcus Rashford's injury.

Ighalo is no stranger to the Premier League following a two-year spell in England's top division with Watford.

United could hand the 30-year-old his United debut following the conclusion of their winter break when they face top four rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

Ighalo has already expressed his desire to perform for his new side - the club he supports - and Cole believes he will be playing with a point to prove.

"That’s what we are hoping for," he told Goal. "There are no doubts that he will do just that.

"He is a big supporter of the football club, he’s a fan. He wants to come here and do what he can for Manchester United, play to the best of his ability."

Cole believes Ighalo's top-flight experience will help him adjust quickly to life in Manchester and the challenges that come with it.

He added: "He’s got Premier League experience from his time at Watford, he did well there.

"He made the move to China but he’s coming back to England and will give it everything he’s got.

"Being a Manchester United fan, he will want to prove that he’s good enough for the club."
