Manchester United great Andy Cole compares Edinson Cavani to Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Andy Cole believes Manchester United-bound Edinson Cavani could have the same impact as Zlatan Ibrahimovic did at Old Trafford.

The Uruguayan striker is set to sign for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side on a free transfer following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain.

Ibrahimovic signed for United back in July 2016, and his arrival in Manchester had a massive impact on the club - that was then managed by Jose Mourinho.

When the now-AC Milan striker joined United, he was 34-years-old, and there were some doubts that he could maintain his notoriously high levels in the Premier League.

However, the Swedish forward scored four goals in his first five games as a United player, and ended up scoring 28 times in all competitions in his debut season in England.

Cole, the former United striker, believes 33-year-old Cavani could have a similar impact. Speaking on Sky Sports News, Cole said: “Me, personally, I think that’s going to be a good acquisition.

“Yeah, I know everyone keeps talking about his age, being 33, and he’s not played for the last six months. But he’s quality, he’s scored goals in Italy, with the national team, and he’s scored goals in France.

“I think him coming in, the younger boys can learn off him with his wealth of experience, and he’s a quality player.

"All being well, it goes to plan, if he has the same kind of impact as Zlatan did, then everyone will be very, very happy with that.”
