Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson sets himself new challenge

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is aiming to 'keep his foot on the accelerator' and see how far it can take him after another impressive season away from the club.

The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League this season with a string of impressive performances for Sheffield United.

Henderson has shone while on loan at Bramall Lane this season but is only contracted to play for the club until 30 June as part of the loan agreement arranged with United last summer.

The Premier League still intend to conclude the current season by the end of July and as a result United would need to approve of any loan extension to let him play after the original expiry deadline.

After a whirlwind season Henderson will be looking to end it on a high, and he says his next challenge is to build upon his recent international recognition and become England's No.1

“That’s what you work for, isn’t it?” he told the Yorkshire Post of his first England call-up. “I remember being in the airport with my missus in Villa Moana, it was the first time in years I’ve shed a little tear.

“I’ve been there before with the (Under-)21s when it looked impossible (to become first choice). I’ve just got to keep my foot on the accelerator and keep working hard and see where it takes me.”
