Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson out of Euro 2020 with injury

Dean Henderson has been forced to pull out of England's Euro 2020 squad as a result of an injury that has kept him out of training at St George's Park in recent days.

The Manchester United goalkeeper was on the bench at Wembley on Sunday as United got their European Championship campaign up and running with victory over Croatia.

But the 24-year-old trained away from his fellow goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and Sam Johnstone in recent days and on Monday he could only train in the gym as a result of the hip injury.

That has led to Henderson withdrawing from the squad, with Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale called up as his replacement.

An FA statement said: "Henderson withdraws with a hip issue that would continue to limit his involvement in training throughout the tournament.

"Under UEFA regulations, squads are permitted to replace goalkeepers on medical grounds at any stage.

"The Manchester United goalkeeper will now return to his club for further assessment and rehabilitation ahead of the 2021/22 season."

England had initially played down Henderson's injury when he was unable to train towards the end of last week, saying he had missed Saturday's session before the Croatia game as a "precaution".
