Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea suffers injury blow ahead of Spain Euro 2020 knockout fixture

David de Gea has suffered an injury in training ahead of Spain's knockout fixture against Croatia in the European Championship on Monday.

The Manchester United goalkeeper is yet to feature for his national side in the tournament, having played back-up to Unai Simon during the group stage.

De Gea might have been hoping for a surprise recall ahead of facing Croatia on Monday evening, but he looks set to miss the match entirely with Brighton's Robert Sanchez expected to take his spot on the bench.

The 30-year took part in the Spain training session at the Parken Stadium, before he was forced to leave the field during the 'keeping drills, with reports suggesting a thigh injury was the problem.

Subsequent video footage showed the United shot-stopper walking along the touchline with Spanish medical staff before making his way back to the dressing room for treatment.

De Gea has not withdrawn from the Spain squad which suggests his issue might only be a minor one, with the United 'keeper in line to potentially feature in any further knockout match.

Luis Enrique's side would face the winner of France vs Switzerland in a quarter-final on Friday if they manage to overcome World Cup runners-up Croatia on Monday evening.

De Gea is the only United goalkeeper involved in Euro 2020 after teammate Dean Henderson was forced to withdraw from the England set-up due to a hip injury.
