David de Gea has taken to social media to send his well wishes to Bernd Leno after he was stretched off during Arsenal’s defeat to Brighton.
Leno was stretched off during the first half at the Amex after clashing with Neal Maupay after coming to collect a high ball.
Leno appeared to be in real discomfort and his screams in agony were audible in an empty stadium as he hit the deck after coming to collect a ball and being nudged to the ground by the forward.
The stretcher came on and the keeper was taken off on it, although he was not in too much pain that he could not make his feelings towards the culprit Maupay known before he went off.
Leno sat up on the stretcher and pointed an accusing finger at the Brighton striker, having a few words with the Frenchman before he left the pitch.
And taking to social media after the game, the Manchester United goalkeeper wrote: “Stay strong” followed by a prayer and muscle emoji.
Despite the Gunners going ahead through Nicolas Pepe, the Seagulls hit-back through Lewis Dunk before Maupay won it for his side in the closing stages.
“I don’t think it was justified. At half time I went to apologise to Mikel Arteta. I never meant to injure their keeper,” Maupay said afterwards on Leno's reaction.
“I just jumped to get the ball and when he landed he tweaked his knee. I apologise to the team and him as well. I never meant to hurt him.”
While Arteta said on the incident: “I believe no player has the intention to hurt anybody and I believe exactly the same in this case.
“It was unfortunate. Yes, Bernd’s injury doesn’t look good, we have to assess it but things can happen on a football pitch. He was in a lot of pain.”
