Manchester United given squad boost ahead of Manchester derby

Manchester United appear to have been given a boost ahead of the League Cup semi-final first leg after Jesse Lingard returning to training.

The England international was sent home from the club's Carrington training base on Friday due to illness and missed the FA Cup third-round game against Wolves.

However, it looks like he could be available again for the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Manchester City on Tuesday night as he was pictured in training with the rest of the squad over the weekend.

New Zealand rugby star Sonny Bill Williams posted pictures of his visit to the training ground on his Instagram page where he met Lingard along with Angel Gomes, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot and Phil Jones.

The All Blacks star also met Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Bailly, David de Gea, Lee Grant and Paul Pogba.

Pogba will not be in contention for the game against Pep Guardiola's side at Old Trafford as he waits for an operation on his ankle after picking up a new injury following his return from his lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Anthony Martial missed the Wolves game through illness while Scott McTominay will certainly miss the City game as he recovers from a knee injury.

Solskjaer should be able to give an update on the availability of his players in his pre-match press conference on Monday morning.
