Manchester United given potential FA Cup fourth round tie against Middlesbrough

Manchester United will face Middlesbrough in the fourth round of the FA Cup if they beat Aston Villa on Monday.

Ralf Rangnick’s men have been handed a potential home tie against their Championship after the draw for the fourth round was made on Sunday.

United are yet to play their third round tie this weekend, and they face a tricky task if they’re to book their place in the fourth round.

Villa have shown some resurgence since Steven Gerrard took over as manager, and they’ll be buoyed by the signing of Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona.

United meanwhile have been dogged by reports of unrest among the players, and will have a point to prove following another lacklustre display in their defeat to Wolves last week.

Rangnick will face a difficult balancing act as he weighs up whether to go with a full strength side for United’s only realistic chance of winning silverware this season, or rests some of his big names for the ongoing top four race in the Premier League.

Elsewhere in the draw, Manchester City will face Fulham, Liverpool and Tottenham have been handed home ties against Cardiff and Brighton after reaching the fourth round on Sunday, while Kidderminster Harriers – the lowest ranked side left in the competition – have been handed a plum tie at home to West Ham.

The fourth round ties are scheduled to be played between Friday, February 4 and Monday, February 7.
