Manchester United given hope over Ousmane Dembele deadline day transfer

Manchester United have been given hope over a possible deadline day move for Ousmane Dembele by Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman.

United are still keen on adding a new right winger before the transfer window shuts on Monday and have looked at Dembele as a potential short-term option.

MEN Sport understands Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have no intention of signing the 23-year-old on a permanent deal this summer but could make a loan move in the final hours of the window.

Jadon Sancho remains the priority target for United in the transfer window but the club acknowledge they must consider alternatives with a deal looking increasingly unlikely.

French World Cup winner Dembele could prove to be a good temporary solution if a loan deal can be agreed and Koeman admits there is a chance he could leave on deadline day.

“What is certain in the world? I don’t know,” Koeman told reporters on Sunday. “At the moment, he’s a Barcelona player. There’s still one day left for incomings and outgoings. We’ll see.”

Speaking last week Barcelona sporting director Ramon Planes insisted there had been no talks with United yet in regards to Dembele's future.

"First of all, no negotiations with Manchester United at the moment," he said. "Completely deny that. He's a player we count on, we know his potential. We hope this year the team sees the best of him."

Memphis Depay's impending move to Barcelona could boost United's chances of landing Dembele.

"He (Depay) has reached an agreement with Barcelona, we don't hide that at all," Lyon's sporting director Juninho said on Sunday.
