Manchester United give team news vs Arsenal as Harry Maguire returns

Michael Carrick is glad to be welcoming Harry Maguire back to the squad for Thursday's fixture against Arsenal, but it seems unlikely that any more of Manchester United's injured stars will return to action.

Carrick will likely take charge of his final game as United's caretaker manager when Arsenal visit Old Trafford, with incoming interim boss Ralf Rangnick expected to be in the hot seat by Sunday's game against Crystal Palace, providing his work permit issue is resolved.

In the meantime, Carrick will be hoping the positive impact he has had on the side since taking the reins from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will continue against the Gunners, having defeated Villarreal and drawn with leaders Chelsea in his first two games in charge.

Captain Maguire will be available for selection once again after missing the trip to Stamford Bridge due to serving a one-game suspension after being sent off against Watford.

However, Luke Shaw remains a doubt while Raphael Varane, Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba are still sidelined.

"Nothing really new," Carrick said to MUTV. "There are always niggles at this time of year, playing a lot of games. There are always players you're waiting on a little bit, to an extent.

"Obviously Harry is coming back into the squad after his suspension but well see who is fit and available for tomorrow."

Shaw suffered a head injury prior to the international break and though he started against Watford he has missed the last two games as United continue to monitor his well being.

Varane was given a prognosis of a month out of action after suffering a thigh injury so should hopefully be nearing a return, though Pogba and Cavani are more long-term absentees.
