Manchester United give team news plus Marcus Rashford injury update vs Burnley

Marcus Rashford is touch-and-go to start for Manchester United for the Premier League visit of Burnley on Sunday.

Rashford was included in the matchday squad for the Europa League quarter-final second leg stroll against Granada but was the only outfield substitute who did not warm up due to a troublesome foot injury.

The 23-year-old has not completed a full training session since the 3-1 win at Tottenham on Sunday and United have the benefit of a first free midweek of the season next week.

Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire are available again after serving suspensions in Europe, while Dean Henderson is expected to return in goal. Anthony Martial is still sidelined with a knee injury.

"It was a bit of a bonus he didn’t have to put any pressure on himself," Solskjaer said of Rashford. "I’ve got to hope he’ll be available and not make it worse. That is the decision I have to make. Fingers crossed.

"He wasn’t due to be on bench today. He didn’t train yesterday. But just in case he put his hand up and said if needed I can do a job. It is a decision I have to make on Sunday morning.

"He is important for us. It is a difficult one. Have to go by how he feels in a couple of days.

A quirk of United's record against Burnley is they have never done the double against them in the Premier League era and the Clarets, unbeaten in their last four trips to Old Trafford, have scored twice in their last three games at United and gone 2-0 up in all of them.

Burnley inflicted a demoralising 2-0 defeat on United in January of last season that left them 30 points off the summit. United are all but certain to finish at least second in the league this term and could go to within eight points of leaders City with three points against Sean Dyche's side.

"The last three games against Burnley, we’ve conceded two goals and not won last three home games against them," Solskjaer stressed. "It is a massive game to show the mentality they have shown over the last 13 or 14 month.

"The attitude has been spot on, the determination, the bouncebackability, the quality of not letting one defeat derail your season or lose the momentum, get straight back on for a win.

"The way they’ve coped with the whole situation, the players, they’ve impressed me, I have said it many times. The coaches, the little details to improve on.

"The devil is in the detail, there can’t be too many coaches around the world who look at the detail as much as mine, I’m delighted to be working with them. The devil is in the detail.

"I know it might sound strange but when you play at this level, split-second decisions can be the difference between winning a semi-final and losing a game. We have to do everything we can. That’s why we have sports science, physios, coaching, every little detail.

"Every manager is the same. You can ridicule what I said as much as you like but it’s in our DNA to make the most of everything. That is what we do at Man Utd. We have the facilities to try and explore every little detail."
