Manchester United give team news ahead of Brentford fixture

Edinson Cavani and Aaron Wan-Bissaka could return for Manchester United against Brentford, provided the Premier League fixture goes ahead.

Club sources have confirmed a small number of players and staff tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday and were sent home before training.

The whole group who travelled to Norwich had initially tested negative but, subsequently, a small number of lateral flow tests among players and staff returned positive results.

United's non-starters against Norwich who had tested negative were able to train outside at their Carrington training complex on Sunday and United are scheduled to train on Monday afternoon before flying to London for the Tuesday night game.

Cavani has been sidelined since November 2 with a tendon injury and Wan-Bissaka was carried off at the end of the 1-1 draw with Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday.

"Now it is too early to speak about that," Rangnick said on Saturday when asked about possible changes at Brentford. "I will wait and see how the players have recovered tomorrow or Monday.

"Tomorrow, we will train with the players who haven’t played or only played for a couple of minutes today. The rest will need to recover. On Monday, before and after training, we can decide on that.

"I saw the Brentford game against Watford yesterday. They are another high-intensity team, maybe more physical even than Norwich were today. We need to be aware and prepare for that different level of intensity. But we have to wait and see.

"A few players are available again; Luke Shaw was in the squad, maybe Aaron Wan-Bissaka might be available for Tuesday, even Edi might be an option. But it is too early."

Raphael Varane could return from a hamstring injury and Rangnick was hopeful Victor Lindelof would be available after his sudden removal at Norwich.

United have not played Brentford in the league since 1947 and are due to make their first trip to the Community Stadium. Brentford were promoted from the Championship via the Play-offs but have been one of the success stories of the top flight this term and are already on 20 points.
