Manchester United give Raphael Varane injury update ahead of Liverpool fixture

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Raphael Varane has trained on grass as he continues to recover from injury.

Varane sustained a groin injury in France's Nations League final win over Spain during the international break and he was subsequently ruled out for 'a few weeks' — which has meant Victor Lindelof has come back into the starting 11 alongside Harry Maguire.

United certainly missed Varane's presence in the heart of defence when losing 4-2 to Leicester last weekend, though.

Solskjaer's side welcome fierce rivals Liverpool to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon and the United boss has offered an update on the progress of Varane's rehabilitation ahead of that game, explaining that the Frenchman has now actually trained on grass.

“He’s working hard,” Solskjaer explained to United's in-house media.

“As I said, it’s hard to put a time limit on players that you don’t really know, but he’s been on the grass and who knows?”

After Sunday's game against Liverpool, United play Tottenham, Atalanta and Manchester City before the November international break and the fresh update regarding Varane suggests he could make his return sooner rather than later.

Marcus Rashford and Fred both came off with knocks during the home win over Atalanta on Wednesday night, though both are expected to be fit enough to feature against Liverpool.
