Manchester United give Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay injury updates vs Tottenham

Manchester United are unlikely to decide whether Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba are fit to face Tottenham Hotspur until the 11th hour.

Pogba and McTominay are both close to returning from ankle injuries and United have felt the loss of both players in recent draws with promoted teams Sheffield United and Aston Villa.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer started Fred and Andreas Pereira in a midfield axis against both sides and the latter was vocally criticised by some United fans at Old Trafford in the 2-2 draw with Villa.

Nemanja Matic returned to first-team training two weeks ago but the Serbian's United future is in doubt and Solskjaer gave a debut to Dylan Levitt in Astana.

"Still got two days," Solskjaer said of Pogba and McTominay. "We need to look at everyone here as well, let's see, hopefully we can see one of them on the pitch but they're working hard behind the scenes."

United have won just four of their 14 Premier League matches this campaign and enter a daunting week, with the visit of Tottenham in midweek before the Manchester derby at the Etihad on Saturday.

Villa was Solskjaer's 50th match in charge of United and he has amassed a winning ratio of 48 per cent. "We are a young team," Solskjaer added. "Probably the youngest team in the league, and that's not an excuse for us to not see games out and not win games we are winning, because we put ourselves in that position.

"What we see then is to get two or three goal leads, so disappointed today we conceded straight away after getting the lead and then the game became more end to end than it should have been, if you can control the game winning, you can control the tempo and we weren't able to.

"Today we created chances to be stood there, three yards away from goal and just tap it in. Dan created some chances down the right and Juan as well. I've said it a few times, we've got players who score worldies, but get yourself those four or five extra goals, it will give us points and it will give them confidence.

"But we're working on this. it's not like they stand outside the box because they don't think the ball's coming. So could've been a couple of tap-ins."
