Manchester United give Luke Shaw team news hint vs Villarreal

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted it's unlikely Luke Shaw start on Manchester United's bench for the Reds' game against Villarreal.

Shaw and Harry Maguire were both forced to leave the field against Aston Villa at the weekend through injury.

It was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon by Solskjaer that Maguire would be sidelined for a few weeks with a calf problem sustained in that defeat, however, he revealed in his press conference there was an outside chance that Shaw could start against Villarreal in the Champions League.

"Luke has been in today so I’ll give him a chance to be involved, he didn’t train with the team," said Solskjaer.

Just one day after the United made those comments, though, and Solskjaer has almost certainly confirmed that Shaw won't start.

"Well, that's football [injuries] for you," Solskjaer told United's in-house media.

"That's why we have the big and strong squad we feel we have. Harry, it looks like he's definitely out.

"Luke, we might give a chance, but he didn't train this morning. So maybe the best-case scenario is he will join us on the bench."

If Shaw is named on United's bench, Solskjaer can call upon Alex Telles, who will be capable of stepping in at left-back.
