Manchester United give Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire injury updates

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested that Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire will miss Manchester United's Champions League clash with Villarreal in midweek.

Both players were substituted in United's 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa after picking up knocks, and were replaced by Diogo Dalot and Victor Lindelof respectively.

The injuries came as further concerns for Solskjaer, who watched a laboured United side fall to their first Premier League defeat of the new season - although the loss is their third in four games. having been beaten by West Ham in the Carabao Cup and Young Boys in the Champions League.

And ahead of their Old Trafford encounter with Villarreal - who beat United on penalties in last season's Europa League final - Solskjaer was unable to give a positive update on his two defenders.

He told the BBC: "At the moment they don't look OK for Wednesday but let's see."

Adding to those comments when speaking to MUTV, Solskjaer said: "I can't tell you. Will have to wait a few days and see how they are."

Lindelof is almost certain to step in for Maguire if the United captain is missing for the clash on Wednesday night (8pm kick-off). Dalot and Alex Telles are the options if Maguire's England teammate, and fellow star of Euro 2020, is unavailable.

Kortney Hause's bullet header gave Villa a surprise 1-0 win at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime, with Bruno Fernandes squandering the chance to level it in added time with a missed penalty.
