Manchester United give Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial expected return dates

Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw have been ruled out of Manchester United's game against Southampton in the Premier League but should be fit after the international break.

Shaw was replaced by Ashley Young in the first half of the defeat against Crystal Palace with a hamstring injury and could be out for up to a couple of weeks after the international break.

After the game at St Mary's on Saturday United have two weeks until their next game against Leicester and Solskjaer is hopeful Martial will be available for that clash.

"They're doing okay but they won't be involved in this game," Solskjaer told MUTV. "After the international break, hopefully Anthony will be ready for the Leicester game and Luke maybe another week or two after that.

"They've got slight injuries that they picked up in the game against Palace and in one respect it's a positive game to get it because it's international break for them and they won't miss too many games."

With Martial ruled out it could provide an opportunity for Mason Greenwood and Solskjaer said in his pre-match press conference that he views the teenager as cover for the Frenchman.

"Mason is not used to playing as little as he is at the moment, he’s used to playing every week for the reserves or under-18s now he’s coming on for half an our here or there, that’s a learning curve for him," Solskjaer said.

"He won’t play five games on the bounce, he’s cover and an option behind Marcus and Anthony."
