Manchester United give injury update on Eric Bailly

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said Eric Bailly's knee injury "doesn't look great" after he was taken off on a stretcher during Manchester United's pre-season friendly win Tottenham.

The centre back came on at half-time but within minutes of his entrance he required medical attention after going down on the edge of his own penalty area.

After being treated on the pitch Bailly was taken off on a stretcher and taken straight down the tunnel, while he left the Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai on crutches with his left knee in a brace.

Asked by MUTV about the extent of the injury, Solskjaer said: "[He's] twisted his knee, we’ve got to do some scans and checks on him. It doesn’t look great."

It is the latest injury blow in Bailly's Old Trafford career, which has been blighted by spells on the treatment table.

The Cameroon international missed more than 25 games last season through injury, including picking up a knock against Chelsea in late April when he was making his first start since the historic Champions League win in Paris Saint-Germain, when he was forced off in the first half after an unconvincing spell at right-back.

The 2-1 win over Tottenham might have been a pre-season friendly, but it was played in a competitive manner and had its feisty moments, with Mousa Sissoko seeming to stamp on Daniel James in the first half.

But Solskjaer was pleased with the competitiveness of the fixture as he tries to get his side sharp for the opening weekend of the season.

"We want to get ready for the league, that’s how it’s supposed to be, it was a really competitive game," he said.
