Manchester United give fresh update on six injured players ahead of Manchester derby

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hopes to have a fully fit squad in the new year with the likes of Eric Bailly and Diogo Dalot stepping up their returns from injury.

United currently have six players sidelined with Paul Pogba the biggest name on the injury list having missed the majority of the season with a foot problem.

Eric Bailly hasn't played since the pre-season tour and Diogo Dalot, Timothy Fosu-Mensha, Marcos Rojo and Nemanja Matic have all spent extended time out but Solskjaer is confident he will have everyone available soon.

“We are getting them back and, say, in 2020 we will have a strong and fit squad, definitely," Solskjaer told the Manchester United app. "They are working hard to get back and they want to be part of this, because the atmosphere in the dressing room and in the stadium on Wednesday night was special.

"When you have the injured lads in amongst everyone who has played and worked, the atmosphere inside is magical. It is a magical feeling when you win games and it is so much easier to get to the next one, it is so much easier to get to work the next day and that is just how football works.”

Pogba, who has been in Miami recently working on his recovery, has been back at the training ground this week as he steps up his return. However, Solskjaer confirmed he won't be available for United's clash against Manchester City on Saturday.

"We hope to have Anthony (Martial) ready for at least spells of the game but Paul is not ready yet," Solskjaer said. "He is on the grass, training, but it is still too early to throw him out there.”
