Manchester United give Edinson Cavani injury update and confirm possible return date

Edinson Cavani has confirmed that he spent the international break focussing on recovering from his tendon injury.

Cavani, 34, has been plagued with injury problems since his move to United on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last year.

The centre-forward last played for United against Atalanta in the Champions League last month and he was subsequently ruled out of the Manchester derby after that game. He was also forced to pull out of Uruguay's squad across the international break.

Cavani has been suffering from an ongoing tendon problem all season and he reflected on his recovery over the last few weeks.

"During this period of the international break, I've had the chance to stop and focus on this niggling injury that I'm feeling in the tendon in my leg," Cavani told United's in-house media.

"So I can speed up my recovery and come back quickly and be available for my club and national team.

"So, during this time, I was able to spend a few days in Uruguay, do some fitness and recovery work and stuff and, in turn, I managed to see my family at the same time, which is always important, to see your family and be close to them."

If Cavani isn't named in United's squad to play Chelsea, it's expected he'll be in contention to play against Arsenal.
