Manchester United give Edinson Cavani injury update after Man City omission

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Edinson Cavani has been forced out of the Manchester derby after picking up an injury after United's return from Italy.

The Uruguayan played 21 minutes in the 2-2 draw with Atalanta but is now not available to face Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Cavani was replaced by Marcus Rashford in the starting line-up against Atalanta, but Rashford has only passed a fitness test on Saturday morning to be on the bench.

“We’ve had a couple of issues since Italy, Edi has been one of them, Marcus was only cleared this morning, luckily he can be on the bench and hopefully if he needs to he can come on," Solskjaer told MUTV.

“He’s [Greenwood] been one of the big pluses this season, he’s grown and matured and it’s a good chance for him.”

There is better news on Victor Lindelof, who is fit to return after picking up an injury in training on Monday. He comes into a back three alongside Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly.

There are three changes in total from the game against Atalanta, with Fred replacing the suspended Paul Pogba.

“He’s [Lindelof] back, I always felt he was going to make it but you’re never sure, we’re very pleased to have him back," said Solskjaer.

United need a result against City heading into the international break and this is their first fixture at Old Trafford since losing 5-0 to Liverpool.

“It’s the best games, we know it’s going to be a difficult one, we need to be at our best but the boys have shown so many times they can be," added Solskjaer.
