Manchester United give Donny van de Beek and Bruno Fernandes updates ahead of Brentford friendly

Diogo Dalot and Donny van de Beek will be involved in Manchester United's pre-season friendly against Brentford on Wednesday, but the game will come too soon for Dean Henderson and Bruno Fernandes.

Dalot and Van de Beek have been back at training at Carrington since Monday, with Van de Beek working with fitness and sports science staff as well last week.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed both will be on the bench against the Bees and they will be expected to make their first appearance of pre-season against the Premier League new boys.

Henderson has also returned to pre-season training after an absence of nearly two weeks, while Fernandes checked back in to Carrington on Tuesday.

Neither will play against Thomas Frank's side but they could be in contention to face Preston at Deepdale on Saturday afternoon.

"We’re adding more and more players now of course. Dean is back in training which is good for us, he won’t be ready for the Brentford game," Solskjaer told the United website.

“Diogo and Donny have trained and they’re ready to play a part in the game, I would think they’ll be subs.

“Bruno is back in training. He’s not ready to join the Brentford game yet, but he’s not too far."

Nathan Bishop and Tahith Chong have both now left the training group at Carrington to join up with their loan clubs, with goalkeeper Bishop spending the season at Mansfield Town and Chong at Birmingham City.

But there remain plenty of youngsters involved and ready to make an impression, with Anthony Elanga, in particular, catching the eye at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

"We’ve got kids wanting to play of course. They’ve enjoyed the pre-season," said Solskjaer.

"We didn’t enjoy the quick succession of the goals we conceded at the start of the second half, of course. We’ve looked at it and we need to tighten up a little bit in the shape in front of the back four and, hopefully, we can see that against Brentford.

"The training group is bigger with more quality and, hopefully, we’ll add layer to layer, but, of course, the season starts quickly and we haven’t got time to wait for anyone, whoever is the fittest and in the best shape will be in line to play."
