Manchester United get Jadon Sancho boost from Liverpool FC and more transfer rumours

Liverpool have handed a massive boost to rivals Manchester United by pulling out of the race to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to strengthen his squad further once the transfer window reopens, with attacking reinforcements high on his priority list to get United challenging for the Premier League title again.

United are long-term admirers of Sancho and the 20-year-old fits perfectly into the club's new remit of signing young, talented, preferably British players, which has proved successful so far.

Since leaving Manchester City in search of first-team football in 2017, Sancho has been a revelation in the Bundesliga. The winger has followed up his fantastic breakout season by doing even better this year, and he stands alongside Lionel Messi as one of only two players in Europe's top five leagues to register 12+ goals and assists.

It's of little surprise that Europe's biggest clubs are lining up to sign Sancho but, according to the Daily Mirror, Liverpool are not interested in securing his signature.

The league leaders had been repeatedly linked with the England international but it's now reported that they are not involved at any level and aren't even monitoring the situation.

That leaves Chelsea, who Sancho supported as a child, as the only other English club in the chase, as Frank Lampard looks to add to his own squad following the club's transfer embargo.

However, it's claimed that both United and City are unwilling to match Dortmund's lofty asking price, especially with the uncertainty of the transfer window due to the suspension of European football.

Meanwhile, United will be offered the chance to sign Edinson Cavani for free this summer by his representatives, according to Area Napoli.

United were interested in signing a new forward in January and eventually agreed a loan move to secure the services of Odion Ighalo on deadline day, after missing out on Erling Braut Haaland.

MEN Sport reported at the time Paris Saint-Germain wanted a fee close to £25million for the Uruguayan, whose contract expires in the summer, meaning a loan exit was always highly unlikely.
