Manchester United get generous start as fixtures for new Premier League season boost title hopes

Manchester United are again full of hope ahead of a new Premier League season, which starts against newly promoted Hull.

Head coach Michael Carrick has been appointed on a permanent basis after an impressive interim spell, which saw United finish third and secure a return to the Champions League.

But a real examination will come this season, with Carrick now having to juggle those European commitments with potentially far deeper runs in the domestic cups.

An opening day trip to Hull is followed by the first home game of the season against Ipswich, though United’s first big test comes against neighbours Manchester City on September 12.

Both Manchester derbies will not involve Pep Guardiola for the first time in a decade and the reverse fixture at the Etihad Stadium is scheduled for March 20, which could have implications on the title race.

It is part of a relatively easy opening run for the club to kick off the new campaign, with trips to Everton and Fulham either side of the derby.

Man Utd meet Premier League champions Arsenal on December 19 at the Emirates Stadium, and for a second time on February 27 at Old Trafford. They face Liverpool on November 21 and January 23 respectively, hosting their rivals in the first game.

The traditional festive period will see Man Utd take on Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day and Sunderland on December 30, both fixtures at home. Their first game of 2027 is away at Brighton and the season concludes with the visit of Fulham.
