Manchester United: Gary Neville reveals he would 'run a mile' if he was ever offered top job at Old Trafford

Gary Neville has suggested that he would “run a mile” were he to ever be offered a managerial position at Manchester United.

Neville, whose only previous managerial job was a disastrous stint at Valencia that ended in March 2016, also believes that an offer is unlikely to ever come.

Engaging himself in a question and answer session on Twitter, the prominent television pundit was definite in his reply after being asked if he would ever take the job of manager at Old Trafford.

“That call isn’t coming and if it did, I would run a mile,” Neville replied.

The former right-back, who has also worked as an assistant manager with England, won just three games at Valencia during a stay lasting just under four months.

He has not since taken a coaching position, focusing on his punditry duties with Sky Sports, and when asked if he would favour a return to management, he succinctly and definitely replied: “No.”

Indeed, Neville appears to look back at his Valencia tenure in jest, commenting during the same question and answer session humorously when asked what the weirdest thing he had signed was.

“Valencia contract,” Neville replied.

Neville appeared more than 600 times for Manchester United, his only club, before retiring in 2011 having won 20 trophies.

Other revelations from his Twitter session included Neville’s favourite away ground (Villa Park), and that his least favourite game to cover was Manchester City’s win to secure the title against QPR at the end of the 2011-12 season.
