Manchester United forward Anthony Martial can equal Wayne Rooney scoring record this weekend

Anthony Martial could really do with a big performance for Manchester United this weekend.

The French forward has been out of sorts lately and is now faced with the biggest challenge of his club career so far, winning back some supporters.

Martial has been one of the most popular figures at United since 'that' debut goal against Liverpool in 2015, but with only one goal in his last seven appearances he is in need of a revival in front of goal.

The 23-year-old will be eager to silence his doubters, and Everton look like the perfect opposition for him to do just that.

That is because Martial has scored in each of his last three Premier League games versus Everton, an incredible record and one which sees him on the brink of another scoring record.

Another goal at Goodison Park this weekend would see Martial become the first United player to score in four straight matches against a single opponent was Wayne Rooney vs Hull in November 2014.

Ahead of the trip to face Everton on Sunday afternoon manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked about the recent form of Martial, and whether he needed a reality check.

The Norwegian did not specifically call out the French forward in his answer but did warn the squad before backing Martial to come good.

"I've learnt a lot about them over the months I've been here now," Solskjaer said of the United players. "And you get to know them. Most of them - I have to say - have really impressed in their attitude and there's some that need to get a reality check of where they're at but most of these know that they can improve if they keep working as they do.

"I've spoken to individuals and they know and Anthony is one I've spoken to. I've spoken to them all individually, what we expect from them. Anthony's got a massive talent, he signed a new contract, he knows we believe in him, so just keep on working."
