Manchester United foil Liverpool FC transfer chances with Axel Tuanzebe decision

Manchester United could have scuppered Liverpool transfer plans with Axel Tuanzebe set to join Napoli on loan until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old had spent the first half of the 21/22 campaign with fellow Premier League side Aston Villa but has agreed to join Serie A side Napoli.

Tuanzebe made just eight starts for the Villans and has struggled since new manager Steven Gerrard arrived at the club in November last year.

With the decision all but confirmed, the move may have thrown a spanner in the works for Liverpool defender Nat Phillips who recently expressed his desire to leave the Merseyside club and had been linked with Napoli.

Phillips' agent Colin Murdock gave details on how Napoli are now out of the running due to Tuanzebe's decision.

"Napoli have taken Axel Tuanzebe, our former client, on loan, so I think they have finished their operations as regards the role of central defender," Murdock told Area Napoli.

"Therefore, I don’t think we need further comments on Nathaniel Phillips."
