Manchester United fined by UEFA after Villarreal Champions League match

Manchester United have been fined by UEFA after being found guilty of two charges around the Villarreal game at Old Trafford.

United beat the La Liga side 2-1 in the Champions League last month with Cristiano Ronaldo firing in a 95th-minute winner in front of the Stretford End.

Ronaldo celebrated in the corner in front of the fans, with a pitch invader also joining in the celebrations, and United were charged for that offence, as well as the throwing of objects at Old Trafford.

They have been fined €3,375 for the throwing of objects and a further €5,000 for the pitch invasion, with all fines to be paid within 90 days.

A UEFA statement confirming the decision read: "To fine Manchester United €3,375 for throwing of objects. To fine Manchester United €5,000 for the invasion of the field of play. The above fines in the total amount of €8,375 must be paid within 90 days of communication of this decision."

United could be in more hot water with UEFA after a pitch invader again managed to get on the Old Trafford playing surface at full-time last night, making a beeline for Ronaldo to try and get his shirt.

United beat Atalanta 3-2 on Wednesday to move top of their Champions League group.
