Patrice Evra insists that Jurgen Klopp’s squad are not the best Liverpool side ever and he will only start calling them a “great team” if they win three titles in a row.
Defeating Leicester City 3-0 on Sunday night, the Reds extended their unbeaten record at Anfield to a new club record 64 games but former France international Evra, who won five Premier League titles with Manchester United including a hat-trick between 2007-09, has laid the gauntlet down to Liverpool to repeat the feat of himself and his Old Trafford team-mates before he will start dishing out the plaudits.
The Daily Mail quote the 39-year-old as telling Sky Sports: “We need to calm down, it’s only nine games. I will call them a great team when they win three league titles in a row.
“If they don’t win this year, I won’t call them an amazing team – it’s all about consistency and they win the league year after year – that’s when we call them the great Liverpool team.
“Many teams before that have done that and I will call them the best Liverpool team when they win three leagues in a row.”
Evra’s sentiments were echoed by fellow Sky Sports pundit Freddie Ljungberg, a Premier League title winner himself with Arsenal in 2002 and 2004.
The Swede said: “It’s a great, great club and to say they’re the best team compared to other histories and team, I don’t think that’s fair. I agree with Patrice though.”
