Manchester United favourite Lisandro Martinez provides important injury update

Lisandro Martinez has provided a positive injury update after the Manchester United defender posted videos of him training on social media.

Martinez has been sidelined since suffering a broken metatarsal in the 2-2 Europa League quarter-final draw at home to Sevilla in February. He underwent surgery shortly after with hope he would be ready in time for the new campaign.

Erik ten Hag said at the end of May that he hoped to have the Argentinian back at Carrington imminently and available for the start of pre-season. Now, Martinez has posted an important update on his Instagram story.

The defender was videoed running and dribbling with the ball at his feet, which is the first time he's shown this online. He then later tweeted: So happy to be back 100%," with two emojis.

The 25-year-old looks on track to match Ten Hag's prediction, with less than three weeks until United's first friendly. The Reds will take on Leeds United at the Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo on July 12 before meeting Lyon in Edinburgh a week later.

Martinez made 45 appearances across all competitions in his maiden season at Old Trafford. He became an instant fan favourite and a go-to selection for Ten Hag, who worked with him at Ajax.

In the days following his surgery back in April, Martinez took to Instagram, writing: "Everything went really well, thanks to God! Many thanks for all of your messages. Now focusing on the recovery."
