Manchester United favourite explains what Paul Scholes did better than Cristiano Ronaldo

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes Paul Scholes was 'mentally' a better player than Cristiano Ronaldo.

The former England international played with both Scholes and Ronaldo during his time at United and was blown away by their incredible individual talents.

Hargreaves believes Ronaldo is still the most talented player he witnessed in his career, but says Scholes was on another level mentally to even the best players in the world.

“Cristiano Ronaldo was the most talented player I ever played with,” he told BT Sport.

“But Cristiano Ronaldo was also 6ft 1in, explosive, could play with both feet, could jump like a basketball player.

“In terms of mentally, the best player I ever played with was Paul Scholes, because he had to think the game.

“Physically he wasn’t as dominant as Cristiano because of his size and his speed, but his brain was as sharp as anybody I ever played with.

“So to compare the two is almost not fair, because they’re completely different.

“Cristiano in terms of all the attributes, it was like he was born to be a football player and he’s almost a machine.

“And Scholesy was just mentally two steps ahead of everybody else. That’s why Xavi and Iniesta and all those players modelled their game on him, because he was very special.”
