Manchester United favourite Ander Herrera posts emotional message after PSG contract terminated

Ander Herrera has sent a farewell message to Paris Saint-Germain after his contract at the French club was terminated. The Spanish midfielder has agreed to end his time at the club two years early and re-join former club Athletic Bilbao.

Herrera, 33, was initially insistent that he would see out his final two years in the French capital, but was frozen out as PSG looked to urgently offload some of their squad before deadline day.

United signed Herrera for £28.85million in 2014, and he spent five years at the club before he left as a free agent, signing for PSG upon the expiration of his contract.

He has now moved back to the Basque Country to re-join Bilbao, and has sent an emotional parting message after his contract was officially terminated.

"The time has come for me to say goodbye," Herrera wrote in a social media post to PSG fans. "Goodbye to three wonderful years full of good moments.

"I will be eternally happy and grateful to have been able to represent the greatest club in France, to have played three seasons full of titles, to have played with some of the best players in the world, and for all the affection I've received since the first day I arrived in Paris.

"I will never forget this club, the people who work here, and especially how wonderful it is to play at the Parc des Princes.

"I have always tried to put the interests of the club ahead of my own interests. I'm going away happy to have given everything during these three years of successes, and titles and to have worn this shirt for almost 100 games.

"We came very close to bringing the famous Champions League to the club's showcase. I have no doubt that soon you will have it.

"And I can't say goodbye without talking about Paris, I'm leaving totally in love with this city, with each of its corners, with its elegance and of course with its people.

"Thanks to all of you for making each moment unforgettable. Merci Paris."
