Manchester United were putting preparations in place for an important transfer window before the coronavirus pandemic threw the football season into chaos.
With no return date yet agreed for the Premier League, the positioning of the next ‘summer’ window is equally as unclear, but clubs will still be considering where to move once the market opens.
Having already hugely improved their starting lineup in January with the capture of Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon, United had look poised to accelerate their rebuild and further flex those considerable financial muscles by chasing more high-profile signings.
Speaking to Sky Sports earlier this month, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that recruitment planning was continuing during the current shutdown.
"Football is going to get back to normality at one point, and it's very important we're ready when that happens," he said.
"We want to be the best at everything, and of course now is a chance to spend more time, you discuss players, discuss plans, we've evaluated what we need, of course with the coaching staff we've looked at games, evaluated games, discussing on video calls like this."
