Manchester United fans welcome Raphael Varane but question one selection in Newcastle lineup

Manchester United fans have mixed feelings after Ralf Rangnick confirmed his line-up for the side's return to Premier League action at Newcastle.

Due to a Covid-19 outbreak that also, temporarily, shut down operations at their Carrington training base, United are set for their first match since December 11.

It comes against Eddie Howe's relegation strugglers in the first of three quickfire games for Rangnick and his team.

More than two weeks since the innovative German picked his last XI, there are two changes for the Old Trafford side as Raphael Varane — back for the first time since early November 2 after an injury — and Mason Greenwood come in for Victor Lindelof and England forward Jadon Sancho.

That's despite Jesse Lingard hinting that he might be involved tonight when sharing a cryptic Instagram post.

Lingard is omitted from the bench, with Anthony Elanga and fit-again Edinson Cavani among the substitutes along with Sancho. Rangnick confirmed Lindelof's absence was due to Covid-19.

Here are a selection of comments from United supporters on social media platform Twitter;

@hesham786 said: "Donny [van de Beek] and Sancho are more than entitled to feel aggrieved, but hopefully they get a chance midweek."

@StatManCam posted: "[Marcus] Rashford and Bruno must've trained REALLY well."

@imDesiRedDevil added: "What does Rashford do to keep on starting while Sancho gets dropped? It makes zero sense to me."

@UsmaanTalksUTD said: "Not happy Rashford and Bruno [Fernandes] are starting over Sancho and Donny."

@mps03 posted: "Delighted that Varane is back in the team. Genuine world class centre-back."

@The_Scientist_R added: "Varane is back that's a sigh of relief right there."
