Manchester United fans vent their fury at Glazers and Ed Woodward at Old Trafford

Manchester United fans vented their fury towards Ed Woodward and the Glazer family at Old Trafford as the Red Devils slipped to a torrid 2-0 home defeat to Burnley on Wednesday.

Jay Rodriguez's stunning strike sealed Burnley's first win at the Theatre of Drams since 1962 as United fans expressed their anger at the state of the club.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men have tended to respond well to setbacks, but his inconsistent side faltered under the floodlights on Wednesday as their challenging season continued.

Just 25 days after United won 2-0 at Turf Moor, Burnley won by the same scoreline as Chris Wood and hometown hero Rodriguez netted either side of half-time to send United into a tailspin.

The majority of Old Trafford was on its feet when chants of "stand up if you hate Glazers" echoed around the ground following the Clarets' second of the evening.

The owners and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward were subjected to many other chants on a miserable night for United, whose injury-hit side flailed after a promising start as the need for January reinforcements was laid bare.

As United tried (and failed) to mount a late comeback, thousands of fans began to depart the stadium - a sight that would have been incomprehensible during the Alex Ferguson era given the club's previous reputation for late goals in 'Fergie Time.'

Speaking on BT Sport after the game, club legend Rio Ferdinand said: "(In the) 84th minute I saw people get up and go. That is unheard of at this stadium.

"Seeing people leave with disdain on their face. It is an embarrassment. The downward spiral in seven years has been remarkable."
