Manchester United fans unveil new Sir Bobby Charlton and Denis Law banners at Old Trafford

Manchester United supporters have honoured club legends Sir Bobby Charlton and Denis Law with two new banners paying tribute to their achievements at the club.

Fans group Stretford End Flags have designed the artwork to commemorate two of the Red Devils’ all-time greats.

They have been installed on either side of the scoreboard at the Stretford End. Fans will hope to see them for the first time when United host Burnley on December 30 - their last scheduled home game of 2021 - should the club’s COVID-19 situation improve.

Sir Bobby’s banner reads ‘‘Born in Ashington, made in Manchester’ in homage to his upbringing while Denis’ says ‘Denis Law: The King of the Stretford End’.

Stretford End Flags normally request donations from fellow supporters to go towards financing the creation of their banners but this time, Denis and daughter have requested that fans instead donate to the Alzheimer's Society.

This comes after the United hero was diagnosed with mixed dementia earlier this year, with the news that Sir Bobby was also sadly suffering from the disease coming to light in November 2020.

Sir Bobby and Denis already have commemorations around the Theatre of Dreams, both featuring alongside George Best in the United Trinity Statue.

Sir Bobby, of course, also has a stand named after him while Denis has a statue within the Stretford End concourse too.

Both also have dedicated banners along with club heroes, such as Sir Alex Ferguson among others.

The former made 758 appearances for United, scoring 249 goals across a 17-year stay between October 1956 and May 1973.

The 81-year-old won the 1967/68 European Cup alongside Law under Sir Matt Busby, going on to win three First Division titles and an FA Cup in all.

Among a plethora of personal honours he was bestowed the 1966 Ballon’ d’Or following England’s World Cup triumph.

Law featured in 404 United matches, scoring a total of 237 goals between August 1962 and July 1973.

He won two league titles and an FA Cup after receiving the Ballon d’Or two years earlier than Sir Bobby.
