Manchester United fans think Mike Phelan has dropped a hint over Harry Maguire's selection

Manchester United supporters have their fingers crossed that Harry Maguire is set to be miraculously included in their Europa League final line-up tonight.

Ever since being felled by a challenge with Aston Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi earlier this month, the England man has been in a race against time to feature in Gdansk.

Maguire, 28, boarded the flight to Poland - but he did not take part in the squad's last training session before getting down to business with Villarreal, owing to ankle ligament damage.

As a result, it looks for all the world that Victor Lindelof will be joined by Axel Tuanzebe or Eric Bailly when United announce their matchday squad an hour before kick-off (8pm).

But with Sir Alex Ferguson a special guest of the squad, has one of his former players Ole Gunnar Solskjaer dished out a double bluff which even the legendary Scot would be proud of?

In terms of training, the final preparations have already been put in place, with or without Maguire.

However, as the chance to claim a first trophy under Solskjaer draws closer, some United fans have theory about a social media post made by Mike Phelan.

Along with the above image, he tweeted the caption: "Final prep walk and talk."

At the centre of that post, eagle-eyed supporters have noticed United captain Maguire chatting with his manager.

Calculated or coincidence, the image has drawn plenty of responses from those who will be cheering United - with or without the England defender - on, largely from the comfort of their own homes tonight.

Following the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, around 2,000 supporters have followed the squad to Gdansk, but will they mark the occasion with a first trophy since 2017?
