Manchester United fans were excited after Mason Greenwood donned the club's iconic No.7 jersey during a practice match at Old Trafford.
The 18-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season for United scoring 12 goals in all competitions, including five in just four Premier League starts.
Greenwood ordinarily wears the No.26 for United but he wore the No.7 as United's players returned to their home stadium for a run-out on Saturday.
United stepped up their preparations for a return to Premier League action with an intra-squad friendly to help build match fitness after a near three-month absence from competitive action.
Greenwood posted a picture from the match, competing with Dan James, which highlighted the number on the back of his shirt.
United's players on both teams wore the numbers one to 11, so it would be premature for fans to think it is a hint that Greenwood will inherit the number from Alexis Sanchez next season.
However, that didn't stop United fans from lapping the picture up on Twitter.
Greenwood was recently hailed by United teammate Jesse Lingard, who told Sky Sports: "He knows the game of football, he shoots right to left foot. Still to this day I don’t know what foot he is. He can score free-kicks with his left, take corners with his right. When he has been given the opportunity, he shows what he can do.
"It doesn’t matter about age, as long as you can perform on the day, and do the job for the team, you’ll be in the team. He is learning at a rapid rate at the moment.'
