Manchester United fans think history is repeating with Jose Mourinho sacking comparison

Manchester United supporters have a sense of déjà vu in the aftermath of their humiliation vs Liverpool.

Having returned to winning ways in the Champions League, anticipation and excitement was at fever pitch before their Premier League showdown at Old Trafford.

However, no sooner than the two biggest rivals in English football had locked horns, United were on their way to a catastrophic defeat.

Mohamed Salah took centre stage with a hat-trick after earlier goals from Naby Keita and Diogo Jota.

United substitute Paul Pogba saw red when the game was up, prompting supporters to compare the situation that led to Jose Mourinho's sacking.

Indeed, the Portuguese coach was handed his P45 after a 3-1 defeat to the same opponents in December 2018.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Mourinho - initially on a temporary basis - and the United 'no show' against Liverpool has sparked up an angry response on social media.

Here are a selection of comments which have been posted by supporters on Twitter;

@AHester32 said: "Hats off to the Glazers, Woodward, Ole, Mourinho and all the players. The culmination of all your hard work being fully realised today. An absolute disgrace."

@Robunited7 posted: "United were playing better football under Mourinho and van Gaal..."

@R_Shivaram8 added: "Mourinho has never made us this embarrassed and disappointed - and there's nowhere the manager can hide from this."

@myselfadi said: "Mourinho's last game at United was against Liverpool. Klopp is becoming to United managers what Graeme Smith was to England cricket captains..."

@PradyRathi posted: "Can someone please remind me why did we get rid of Mourinho once again?"

@vvTembe added: "Funny thing is Mourinho's last game was against Liverpool."
