Manchester United fans think Dele Alli goal for Tottenham should have been disallowed by VAR

Manchester United fans think Dele Alli's equaliser for Tottenham should have been ruled out for handball on Wednesday.

United had taken the lead against Jose Mourinho's Spurs side through Marcus Rashford, and then had several clear opportunities to extend their lead through Mason Greenwood, Jesse Lingard and Rashford.

It seemed like it was only a matter of time until United scored a second, but it was Tottenham who scored the next goal against the run of play when Alli produced a lovely bit of skill to flick the ball over Fred's head in the area and fire across David de Gea,

Initially, the impressive goal seemed perfectly legal, but a VAR review was initiated to determine whether the ball brushed Alli's hand as he flicked it up over Fred.

The review saw no problem with the goal, which was allowed to stand despite the replay showing the ball did make contact with Alli's upper arm.

United fans were right to feel aggrieved at the decision, as new rules introduced this season meant any contact with the arm - intentional or not - is a handball offence.

Drawing back to a similar decision that went against United in the recent draw at Sheffield United, fans took to Twitter to express their frustration at another marginal VAR call that has gone against their side:
